Director Damien Leone said that several major studios showed interest in financing this film based on the unexpected success of Terrifier 2 (2022), even without a complete script, but he turned them all down because he is sure they would never let him shoot the opening scene alone, which he describes as “very controversial”. Leone commented that the only reason he can be so uncompromising in his portrayal of horror and gore is that he finances his films independently, creates all the special effects himself to keep costs down, and doesn’t have a major studio breathing down his neck to make the film more mainstream. .. Mia mentions that the 5th anniversary of the original massacre was coming up soon, but it happened on Halloween, and this movie taking place at Christmas 5 years later would mean that the anniversary had just passed 2 months ago..

Sure, the practical gore effects are fine. It’s a hot mess. The plot is non-existent, Sienna Shaw’s messianic arc feels forced, and continuity has taken a backseat to shock value. It seems like Leone is trying to ride the wave of franchise success by throwing every half-baked idea at the screen in the hope that something will stick.

Unfortunately, the only thing that sticks is blood. The art offers another night to dissect, but is there coherent storytelling? It’s not horror, it’s lazy carnage that thinks shock value replaces storytelling. Art the Clown, Pennywise and Killer Klowns are just a few of the comical creatures that send shivers down our spines.
